Credit Union SHL Final Today at 2pm

Credit Union County Hurling League Div 1 Final - preview by Murt Murphy for
Abbeydorney v Ballyheigue at Abbeydorney at 2pm
This afternoon at Abbeydorney the senior hurlers of Abbeydorney and Ballyheigue will face off for the final piece of silverware of 2011 and while it might be late in the season, it could well be a cracking contest.
When the sides met in the SHC, it was Ballyheigue who just snatched victory thanks to a late Mike Boxer Slattery penalty, with Ballyheigue winning on a 2-8 to 2-6.

Abbeydorney probably squandered enough chances to have won.

Abbeydorney were missing Kerry senior star Darragh O'Connell, particularly for his free taking, but they led at half time 1-4 to 0-5, with Brian Leen getting all their scores, with four frees and a fine 7th minute goal from a Damien Ryall assist.

Ballyheigue were reliant on veteran Mike Boxer Slattery converted three first half frees but then an early Kieran Hanafin goal seemed to give Abbeydorney the advantage.

However a Slattery goal in the 41st minute closed the gap to a point, but the next score did not come until the 59th minute when Aidan Healy appeared to have scored the insurance point for Abbeydorney.

Then came the injury time drama when Paul McElligott conceded a penalty and Boxer Slattery drilled the ball to the Abbeydorney net.

However much will depend on how teams will line up and with all the rain, it could be a low scoring contest. Ballyheigue and Abbeydorney have some very good young talent and if they play today, then it could make a for real contest. In the conditions, though it is more likely to be a battle between the free takers, Darragh O'Connell and Mike Boxer Slattery and with home advantage, slight preference is for Abbeydorney.
