Keanes Supervalu Killorglin MLF Div 1 Final

Magnificent John Mitchels complete facile win over shell shocked Rockies

John Mitchels 3-18 Austin Stacks 0-8

The eagerly awaited Keanes SuperValu Killorglin County Minor League Division 1 Final, featuring Tralee rivals John Mitchels (holders) and Austin Stacks, which was supposed to produce fireworks, failed to ignite, as a Darragh O'Neill inspired Mitchels simply crushed their cross town rivals with an awesome display of attacking football and the game was virtually over by half time, at Ballymacelligott, on Sunday evening.
This was a vintage display from this young John Mitchels side, which were completing a two in a row, and not even their most ardent supporter, could have envisaged such a comprehensive win, fashioned out of tremendous teamwork and some superb finishing.
Mitchels raced into the lead with Darragh O'Neill and Niall Sheehy kicking early points, as Jake Moran and Michael Wrenn dominated midfield and they had stretched 0-6 to 0-3 in front by 20th minute, with O'Neill kicking three fabulous points from play as Stacks were chasing shadows and all they had to show for their efforts was two Kyle Fitzgibbon frees and one from play by substitute Ciaran Flanagan.
mitchelsteam.jpgThings got worse for Stacks coming up to half time, as they had no answer to the pace of O'Neill, Sheehy, Jared O'Sullivan and Sean Moloney and by half time Mitchels led 0-11 to 0-4 with Darragh O'Neill having kicked five points from play.
Mitchels continued their domination in the second half with Shane O'Connor, Frank O'Donnell and Cian Sheridan outstanding at the back and points from Wrenn and Niall Sheehy was followed in the 38th minute by a Michael Wrenn goal after a Jared O'Sullivan assist.
A minute later, Niall Sheehy raced in from the right wing and scored one of the finest goals you could ever wish to see, as Mitchels led 2-13 to 0-6 by the 40th minute and the rest of the contest was purely academic, as Stacks were so shell shocked that they could not respond to the Mitchels five star display.
Niall Sheehy then required attention during an asthma attack, but when he got up, he was soon racing through to smash home his second goal, before collapsing over the end line and having to be substituted.
Sheehy ended up with 2-3, while Man of the Match Darragh O'Neill kicked 0-6 in what was one of the most one sided finals imaginable, but Stacks will have another day.
